![]() And that was probably the 43rd time I announced that on this blog.In accordance with the art. ![]() I think it has the most entries on here of all of our rooms. I always say this room is done, but this room will never be done. Here’s a whole post devoted to our daily schedule if you’re curious.įor more projects and before and afters of the room, check out our kid bedroom progress. If you don’t have them in your child’s (or your) room, GET THEM NOW. I used to stagger the older two for bedtime, but not anymore. When it comes to bed time, Adam goes down, then Lily and Ben 30-60 min later. But it’s better for her and she’s a much happier kid. If Ben is going down for a nap, I’ll put Adam down about 15-30 minutes before. Yes, they sleep pretty decent for the most part. You can see more pictures of that here, and here. I’ll answer some questions you might be thinking that are completely unrelated to this shelf.ĭo all three of your kids sleep in one room? Yes. Next shelf: bins from Dollar Tree, a nickel piggy bank from when Doug was little (from his grandma), and the remnants of our board book collection. Next shelf: mason jars filled with goodies, yellow Target clock, a vintage Little People ball game & school chalkboard (garage sale finds), and this robot from Home Goods’ toy section. Top shelf: a vintage little people train (my mom got it at a garage sale when I was little!) I did some staging on the top shelves that they can’t quite reach. It SHOULD have taken a small part of the weekend. I would say it was quick and easy, but really, the transformation took a year. It totally transforms the whole bookshelf and the room. If my kids (3 and 2) are the ones cleaning up the room and not me, so be it. ![]() I don’t care if “Everybody Poops” is displayed prominently. The style of the book rack (or according to Pottery Barn Kids, bookrack) allows for easy kid clean-up because they books don’t have to be arranged just so. (I was pregnant with Adam at this point)Īnd to improve on their brilliant idea, I cut poplar strips down to size, painted them white, and had Doug nail them into place while we were borrowing the nail gun for the wood floors. To update things, I painted the whole bookshelf white last fall. But the narrow depth meant that little kid books were always falling off and it stayed empty. There were adjustable shelves on there when we moved in and the space was great for normal, big people books (think romance novels). Here is when we discovered the bookshelf’s former life as a window opening: The walls in the original part of our home are plaster and hard to patch, so the opening was made into a built-in bookshelf. The bedroom had two windows, and because they were adding on, one was removed. The previous owners added onto our house in the late 70s. The day we closed, we ripped out the gross, fake wood paneling and had an aha moment concerning our little bookshelf. I liked the idea of this bookshelf (although a bit narrow), but didn’t know the why behind it. This was taken when we were doing our final walkthrough before closing, so September 2009. This feature is one of my favorite features in our home, but I can’t take all of the credit for this one. ![]() What do you do with an old window opening when you add onto a house? Turn it into a bookshelf!

In May 1983, following a court case, copyrights to Strawberry Shortcake were granted to Barbi Sargent from American Greetings Corporation. Kenner produced no new dolls or toys thereafter. Several TV specials were made featuring the characters, one each year between 19, by which time the characters' popularity had diminished. Over the bike's seven-year model run, it is estimated over 1 million of the Strawberry Shortcake Bicycles were sold, making the bike one of the most popular children's character themed bikes ever produced. The Strawberry Shortcake Bicycle was introduced in 1983 production ended in 1990. At the time, there were many related products, such as sticker albums, clothing, bedding, a video game by Parker Brothers entitled Strawberry Shortcake Musical Match-Ups for the Atari 2600, and Bike's Big Wheels. To reflect this, the first toy was constructed to be a rag doll, designed by Muriel Fahrion and made by Susan Trentel, Fahrion's sister.ĭuring the 1980s, Strawberry Shortcake became popular with children throughout the United States. At the time, Strawberry Shortcake resembled a typical rag doll, complete with freckles, a mop of red yarn curls, and a bonnet with strawberry print. In 1979, toy manufacturer Kenner Products licensed the character and released the first Strawberry Shortcake doll. The characters lived and played in a magical world known as Strawberryland. Like the Strawberry Shortcake doll, all the other characters' dolls had hair scented to match their theme. The Strawberry Shortcake line of characters each had their own fruit or dessert-themed name with clothing to match, and they each had a fruit or dessert-named pet. ![]() Lynn Edwards served as the editor of the line, helping to develop the characters and storyline. Artwork for the series was done by a number of different freelancers, though the majority was painted by artist Frances Kariotakis. Later characters that were added to the line were designed by Cindy Mayer Patton and Janet Jones. ![]() Fahrion then designed a subsequent 32 characters for Those Characters From Cleveland (American Greetings' toy and licensing design division). In the late 1970s, further Strawberry Shortcake concept art was drawn by Muriel Fahrion, an illustrator working in American Greetings' Juvenile & Humorous card department. These tests marked the first time that the public saw Strawberry Shortcake in her new design, which received a positive reception. ![]() Sargent completed the assignment in early July 1977, sending American Greetings four full-color leader cards depicting the Strawberry Shortcake character in full color ("Leader cards" are used by American Greetings for consumer test purposes). He requested Sargent to create four cards with a "strawberryish" outfit for the Mega Test Market. Rex Conners, American Greetings' staff art director, knew this card was very popular and determined that this was due to the strawberry motif. At the time, the character was simply called Girl with a Daisy or Strawberry Girl and was depicted holding a daisy while wearing an orange bonnet with a strawberry print on it. The character first appeared on a Laurel Valentine's Day Greeting card in 1972–1973. The character of Strawberry Shortcake was originally created by Barbi Sargent, who was then working as a freelance artist for American Greetings. The Sky's the Limit & Berry Bitty Adventures (2008-2010).The franchise is currently owned by the Canadian children's television company WildBrain through the holding company Shortcake IP Holdings LLC. In addition, the franchise has spawned television specials, animated television series and films. It’s a fascinating opener and I can’t wait for the next episode. The first thing thing that entered my head was L.A Confidential when I saw the title of the story, and just like the film, here we also have dirty secrets related to the Justice Department, and those that would go to any length to cover up their secrets. The opening page alone with the shot of the work place with its work cubicles and shadows gives it an almost noirish vibe, not to mention the close up of the Sector Chief’s glasses. Let me just say that Colin MacNeil’s artwork is just gorgeous to behold. It definitely makes us the reader intrigued to know the actual nature of her work and what she has seen, and the fact that Dredd is called to the case when we learn that she has disappeared shows the length they will go to to keep things quiet. It’s clear the nature of the work is putting a big strain on her and she wants to share it with her husband but cannot do so, afraid of what Sector 7 would do to her (i.e, lobotomise her). One of the Sector’s workers, Erika, is under suspicion from her superior officer by the fact that she may be mentally unstable/ sharing information about her work. And this certainly was a solid opener as we are introuduced to the secretive Sector 7 (part of the Justice Department). It’s been a while since we saw both of them together in the Prog, and everytime they do work together you are guaranteed to have a solid story. When I first heard John Wagner and Colin MacNeil would be teaming up for this new Judge Dredd story, I was overjoyed. ![]() Judge Dredd: Mega-City Confidential (Part 1) The cover is the glossy, more firmer quality which is now customary for the jump-on-Progs. Nice use of colour too, it’s definitely eye catching and perfect to draw in new readers. But the depiction of Slaine and Sin Dex are superb. One minor criticism would probably be the way Dredd looks, either his face is too lean or the helmet is too big, I would probably go for the former. Bagwell would no doubt feature highly on that list. If I were to compile a list of my favourite 2000ad artists then Mr. He depicts the squalid nature of the city perfectly, and the supernatural slant gives it a feeling of foreboding, with danger seemingly just around the corner.Īfter the opening two issues I must say I’m hooked, and look foward to issue 3 with fervour.Įxcellent cover by Edmund Bagwell. Simon Bisley’s artwork is superb again in this issue. John is interrogated by the Anti Terrorist Agency Bisley's original pencil work for the above panel And it seems the A.T.A also want to use his services to their advantage. We are also introduced to key characters along the way, such as the corrupt Senator Graham. Their brief meeting does not go unnoticed however and soon the Anti Terrorist Agency (A.T.A) are on John’s case, not to mention the Fallen themselves. ![]() I still have a lot of love of paper comics, and to be honest, don’t think I’ll ever give up my love of physical TPBs/ hardcovers, but I am so impressed with 13 Coins and its creators.Īs for the story, John Pozner the washed up ex-Basketball player gets a visit from Samuel Goodwin, an agent of the ‘Sons of Noah’ who are the ‘Watcher’ angels sent to guard mankind from the ‘Fallen’ angels. Corinthians have done a stellar job indeed and It’s great that digital comics can offer so much nowadays, I’ve seen some pretty cool stuff recently, (i.e falling snow on panels) but this comic just opens up the possibilties of what can be achieved via this format. ![]() ![]() We have another superb 3D cover by Simon Bisley to kick things off, I cannot praise the innovative use of 3D highly enough, just by swiping the image to your left or right can reveal details in the artwork which you might not have seen at first. |
